4 Year Montgomery County Trail Development Plan

2004 - 2007

WELCOME

We have exciting news about the County's Trail development program!

The Montgomery County Commissioners have endorsed a plan for the development of 29 1/2 miles of multi-use trails in the next four years. Called the 4 Year Trail Development Plan, the strategy is to utilize federal and County moneys to create a system of trails that will build on the existing Schuylkill River Trail and the newly completed Perkiomen Trail.

Although the 29 1/2 miles are contained within the boundaries of Montgomery County, those miles will be leveraging access to an additional 30 + miles that are already in place or scheduled for completion in 2007, including extensions of the Schuylkill River Trail into Philadelphia and Berks County, the Chester Valley Trail into Chester County and the Forbidden Drive Trail in Philadelphia.

The plan will also create "loop" connections to the Cross County Trail and the Wissahickon Green Ribbon Trail  will bring trail users into the Fort Washington State Park and Montgomery County's Audubon Sanctuary (a National Historic Landmark), and the Norristown Farm Park.

We look forward to serving the needs of Montgomery County residents and residents of the region who enjoy the out-of-doors for recreation and transportation.
