The County park system has extensive facilities for residents throughout the County. First established in 1939, the primary function of the Parks Department is land preservation in its natural setting. A nine-­member Park Board comprised of County residents advises the staff and Commissioners on park operations. The Montgomery County park system is recognized as one of the finest in the state.
